Gujarat is hosting the 36th National Games this year from September 29 to October 12, 2022

The 2022 National Games of India, also known as Gujarat 2022, will be the 36th edition of the National Games of India and will be held in AhmedabadGandhinagarSuratVadodaraRajkot and Bhavnagar in the state of Gujarat between 27 September and 10 October 2022.

The stage is getting ready for the upcoming National Games. On September 5, 2022, the anthem and mascot for the Games was unveiled by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. He was joined by Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel. Gujarat is hosting the 36th National Games this year from September 29 to October 12, 2022.

Five to six cities in Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, will be hosting the events of the National Games. Earlier, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel had said that the State will spare no effort in making this year’s National Games the best ever. Gujarat is equipped with world class sports infrastructure and a new enthusiasm for sports is being witnessed among the people of the state, the Chief Minister of Gujarat had said about the state hosting the Games.

Unveiling of Mascot & Anthem

“Saavaj” meaning lion in Gujarati, was declared the mascot for the National Games. It is representative of India’s cultural heritage. Further, it will also be a symbol of India’s rapid growth, giving a glimpse of a growing India which is set to become a global leader again.

Meanwhile, the anthem of the Games, encapsulating the philosophy of ‘Judega India, Jitega India’. It has been voiced by Bollywood playback singer, Sukhwinder Singh. The lyrics of the national sports festival’s theme song aims to inspire the youth of the country to connect and conquer historic places like the Statue of Unity and Sabarmati. Embellished with impressive sports scenes, the theme song also captures the heart of how athletes triumph despite adversity.

Ahmedabad – World’s Biggest Sports City

During the inaugural speech, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the city of Ahmedabad would soon be developed into the world’s biggest sports city. “Ten years ago, when Modiji was the chief minister here, he started the Khel Mahakumbh. At that time, Gujarat was nowhere in sports on the global map,” he said. It is important to note that Narendra Modi Stadium in Gujarat is the largest stadium in the world.

He also hailed the Khel Mahakumbh initiative started in the State by the then Chief Minister Narendra Modi. “Once upon a time, we Gujjus were mostly seen as just businessmen. But Modiji started Khel Mahakumbh 11 years back and that event has become so big that as many as 55 lakh youngsters took part in this edition. We even offered a whopping Rs 29 crore as prize money to the winners,” Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said on the matter.

National Games in Gujarat

“We are delighted that the National Games are back after 7 years and this will one will be the biggest and grandest ever,” Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur said. “It normally takes years to organise an event of this scale but Gujarat did this in less than three months.

Over 12,000 athletes, officials and support stage will enjoy not only the sporting extravaganza but also the garba here,” he added.
